Over the past decade, the group has developed over 30 new works and staged 266 concerts in 87 cities in 18 different countries. All these musical adventures, rooted in ancient as well as modern traditions, have greatly enriched the lives of the participating musicians on both human and musical levels. To celebrate this milestone, we present a tenth season that is more diverse than ever, with two concert series in the works: four Grand Concerts at Salle Pierre-Mercure, our home since inception; and three Intimate Concerts at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur. CHANTS DE L'AUBE (SONGS OF THE DAWN)
Constantinople travels along the great silk trade routes to India and recreates a world of sound where echoes of the intense musical dialogue between Iran and Northern India take us to new imaginary realms. The sublime poems of Kebir and Amir Khosrow come to life through our musicians' inspired singing and improvisation. Our guests from India, Dhruba Ghosh - one of the world's great sarangi virtuosos - and Ravi Naimpally on tablas, will be joining our ensemble, along with composer Sandeep Bhagwati, who has composed a new work especially for this concert.

During the Christmas season we invite you to attend a unique concert in which Constantinople will leave its mark on traditional mystic and sacred songs from the Middle Ages. Drawn from the vast repertoire of Mediterranean music, these songs are dedicated to the Virgin Mary and remind us of the unifying spirit underlying diverse traditions. Missa Mystica revives some of the period's most beautiful manuscripts, including the Cantigas de Santa Maria, Syrian and Byzantine hymns, and lamentations to the Virgin.

Four great percussion virtuosos come together to give concert teeming with ecstatic rhythms. Pulsating rhythmic illusions, polyrhythms and tonal experimentation combine to create a vast musical palette. Accompanied by Constantinople's instrumentalists, the four percussion masters will use their respective musical languages to present a jubilant, unforgettable musical experience: Ziya Tabaddian, percussionist and co-founder of Constantinople; Misirli Ahmet (Turkey), master of the darabouka; Zohar Fresco (Israel), finger percussion adept; and Trichy Sankaran (Toronto), virtuoso of the mridangam and percussion instruments of Southern India.

After many acclaimed performances around the world, Canti di a terra, our project in collaboration with Corsican polyphonic ensemble Barbara Furtuna, is coming back to Montreal. Interweaving some of Corsica's most beautiful sacred and profane songs with those of Persia, along with compositions common to both groups, this is a one-of-a-kind, audacious performance will take you on a journey to the heart of the Mediterranean. The sonorous voices of the Corsican singers invoke deep emotions and strike a chord in the our souls: a magical moment.

Pierre-Yves Martel presents a work that subtly reveals his vision of the concept of the baroque. By exploring and transforming baroque composition techniques through a contemporary approach, Plans d'immanence is a precisely designed score which also places great importance on the creative expression of its performers. Pierre-Yves Martel, accompanied by four musicians specialized in both early and modern music, invites you to a new discovery.

The Tabassian brothers, accompanied by Hossein Omoumi, an unparalleled master of Persian song and ney (reed flute), invite you to attend an enchanting evening of sophisticated Iranian music and poetry that evokes all the splendours of Ispahan Palace. These three musicians have been together for many years and are looking forward to sharing with you their new compositions inspired by the words of 13th-century poet Rumi, who proclaimed, -Listen to the voice of the ney, bewailing the sadness of separation-.

VERSAILLES à TOPKAPI
To close out its tenth season, Constantinople invites you to join them on a journey from the Court of Versailles to the Topkapi Palace seraglios of Istanbul's Ottoman sultans. This concert-dialogue, woven around the music of two great baroque composers, Marin Marais of France (1656-1728) and Dimitrius Cantemir of Moldavia (1673-1723), brings together contrasting yet harmonious musical traditions through Constantinople's remarkable arrangements and signature improvisations.
